Jones helped change the narrative from the existing stigma around mental health in Oklahoma and raised awareness about the newly-established 988 helpline. &nbsp;See:&nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.city-sentinel.com\/business\/jones-pr-wins-3-national-awards-for-mental-health-campaign\/article_20dfb916-0f8b-11ee-94f7-abf1dcfce426.html\">Jones PR Wins 3 National Awards for Mental Health Campaign | Business &amp; Energy | city-sentinel.com<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The firm shifted the national campaign\u2019s focus on a \u201csuicide hotline\u201d to focus on a \u201cmental health life line\u201d for the 1 in 5 people who are reported to need help. They used messages that <strong>research showed<\/strong> would appeal to a variety of Oklahoma audiences.\u00a0 Here are the basic PR principles used to design the campaign:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>START WITH RESEARCH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>4.1% of adults in OK had serious thoughts of suicide <\/strong>in the past year.\u00a0 Research showed the 55-year-old white male was a high-risk group.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is behavioral evidence that <strong>300 Oklahomans are admitted for urgent care or crisis mental health services each year.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jones PR conducted <strong>online focus groups with 200 people across the state<\/strong> over a 3-day period, testing key messages and logos and getting real-time feedback.\u00a0 Graphics targeted both urban and rural audiences with \u201ctextures that mean something to Oklahomans\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>KEEP MESSAGES SIMPLE<\/strong>: Instead of using the message, \u201cSuicide Is Never The Answer\u201d, Jones PR used simple sound bites like \u201cLife Can Be A Lot. Help Doesn\u2019t Have to Be\u201d; \u201cTalk Is Good Medicine\u201d \u201cBe Kind To Your Mind\u201d and \u201cYou Are Loved More Than Your Likes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH<\/strong>:\u00a0 A campaign graphic talks about Oklahoma\u2019s \u201ccomprehensive crisis response\u201d beyond the 988-helpline, including urging follow-up appointments, the use of mobile crisis teams and technology that connects law enforcement with a licensed behavioral health practitioner who can assess and connect the person in crisis to additional resources. <a href=\"https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/odmhsas\/treatment\/comprehensive-crisis-response.html\">https:\/\/oklahoma.gov\/odmhsas\/treatment\/comprehensive-crisis-response.html<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CREATIVE OUTREACH AND USE OF TARGETED MESSAGES:<\/strong>\u00a0 Jones PR targeted a variety of priority audiences in the campaign:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teens: Jones PR used the triggering event of World Mental Health Day in October to launch this message: \u201c1 in 10 Teens Suffer from Depression At Any Given Time.&nbsp; Take 10 on 10\/10\u201d.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Middle-schoolers: A different PSA was created for pre-teens.
